Plan the whole year, not just next month

Car insurance in March, property tax in July, Christmas in December. Annual Budget Plan puts every bill on a 12-month plan and works out the one monthly transfer that covers all of them.

Free. No bank login needed.

Bills paid from a shared bills account over one year. The line is the even monthly transfer that covers them all: 4,500 a month.

Monthly budgets miss the bills that hurt

A monthly budget looks fine until the car insurance arrives. The big bills come once, twice or four times a year, and they never land in a month that has room for them.

An annual budget flips it around. You list what the year costs, divide it evenly, and move the same amount every month. The expensive months are paid for long before they arrive.

  • See every income and expense in the month it actually happens
  • Get one fixed monthly transfer for each bank account
  • Know exactly how much should be on the account on any date
  • Export the whole year to Excel when you want it on paper

How it works

  1. Add your accounts

Create the bank accounts you actually use – a salary account, a bills account, a car account, savings.

  2. Add income and bills

Enter each amount once with how often it is paid (monthly, quarterly, twice a year or yearly), the first month and the day.

  3. Read your year

The annual overview lays out all twelve months. Each account shows its monthly transfer and how much cash it needs on any date.

Every bill, in the month it lands

The annual overview is a 12-month table of your income and expenses with monthly totals, the difference for each month and a running balance for the year. You see the thin months before you get to them.

One transfer per account, worked out for you

Link each bill to the account it is paid from. Annual Budget Plan adds up the year for every account, gives you the fixed monthly transfer, and calculates the balance the account should hold on any date – so you know when there is money to spare.

Why it exists

Hi, I am Philip Sørensen, and I built Annual Budget Plan. When my girlfriend and I moved in together we needed a shared budget. A spreadsheet quickly became tedious, and it never gave us the visual overview of the year we wanted.

So I built the tool we were missing: one place to put the whole year, with the monthly transfers worked out for us. Seeing the year laid out made it easy to spot where to cut back and where we could save.

Questions

Is Annual Budget Plan free?

Yes. Creating an account and building your budget is free.

Do I have to connect my bank?

No. You type in your income and bills yourself. Nothing is read from your bank, and you never share a bank login.

What is an annual budget?

An annual budget lists everything you earn and spend over a whole year, in the months it happens. Instead of hoping each month balances, you divide the yearly cost of your bills into equal monthly transfers, so the expensive months are already covered.

Can I get my budget in Excel?

Yes. Both the annual overview and your accounts can be downloaded as an Excel file.

Can we budget as a couple?

Yes – most people use it for a shared household. Add the shared accounts and the bills paid from them, and you both see what to transfer each month.

Start with next year’s bills

Add a bill once and it is placed in every month it falls due.
